Writ of execution
A writ is a formal, written command by order of the Court or legal authority to act, or abstain from acting in a particular way. A writ of execution is a type of writ directed to an official ordering the enforcement of a judgment in a particular way, usually be seizure of property or assets.
A writ of execution is often necessary where a party has failed to comply with a judgment. For example, if a debt dispute is settled and the defendant is ordered to pay the plaintiff $15,000, but in the weeks and months following, they fail to do so, the plaintiff may seek a writ of execution to secure the payment of the money they are entitled to.
